    Phuket is two islands wearing one name: the neon strip of Patong, and everything else — old Sino-Portuguese shophouses, temple mornings, quiet northern beaches and a ferry pier that opens onto the whole Andaman Sea. Treat it as a base rather than a destination and it suddenly makes sense.

    November to April for calm seas and clear skies

    Nov – Feb

    Peak season — calm sea, blue skies, highest prices.

    Mar – Apr

    Hot and still lovely; Songkran water fights in mid-April.

    May – Sep

    Monsoon: big surf, red flags on west beaches, half-price rooms.

    Oct

    Rain easing, Vegetarian Festival, shoulder prices.

    Getting Around

    The island is bigger than people expect and taxis are pricey; a scooter or grab app changes the maths.

    Cheap and flexible, but the hills above Kata and Karon are steep — helmets always.

    🚕 Grab & Taxis

    Reliable app-based rides; metered taxis are rare, agree fares first.

    ⛴️ Ferries & Speedboats

    Rassada Pier connects to Phi Phi, Krabi, Koh Lanta and the Similans.

    🛺 Songthaews

    Blue trucks between Phuket Town and the beaches for pocket change.

    💡 Speedboat day trips are fast and bumpy; slower big boats are far kinder if you get seasick.

    Arrive

    Settle in Kata, sunset at Nai Harn, seafood on the sand.

    Day 2

    South Beaches

    Ya Nui, Windmill viewpoint and Promthep Cape sunset.

    Day 3

    Phang Nga Bay

    Kayak the sea caves before the tour boats arrive.

    Day 4

    Old Town Day

    Shophouses, Chinpracha House, cooking class in the afternoon.

    Day 5

    Phi Phi Day Trip

    Maya Bay viewpoint, snorkelling stops, back by evening.

    Day 6

    Slow North

    Bang Tao or Nai Thon beach, spa afternoon.

    Day 7

    Departure

    Wat Chalong visit, then fly out.
