    Phu Quoc, Vietnam

"White sand, island sunsets and slow beach days"

Phu Quoc is Vietnam's largest island, floating in the Gulf of Thailand off the country's south-west coast. It's built for proper holidays: white-sand beaches, resort pools, fresh seafood and famous fish sauce. The south-east is home to Sao Beach, one of the island's prettiest stretches of sand, while Sunset Town in the south looks like a slice of the Mediterranean, complete with a colosseum and the Kiss Bridge at sunset. Inland, national park forest covers much of the north.

    Phu Quoc at a glance

    Best time to go
November to April is dry and sunny with calm seas. May to October is the rainy season, usually sunny mornings and rain in the late afternoon.
    How long to stay
Three nights is enough for Sao Beach, a beach club day and Sunset Town. Stay five to seven if you want a proper do-nothing holiday.
    Who it's for
Travellers who want a proper beach holiday after busy Vietnam cities: beaches, pools, sunsets and good food.
Might not be for you if
You want untouched wilderness or authentic island villages. Much of Phu Quoc is resorts and built-for-photos attractions.
