    Dubrovnik, Croatia

"Walled city on the world's most photogenic coast"

Dubrovnik's marble streets and city walls are the headline, but the real Croatia trip includes the islands — Hvar, Vis, Korčula — reachable by ferry in a couple of hours. Long summer days, warm Adriatic swims, and Roman ruins next door in Split.

    Best Time to Visit

May to June or September to October

May to June or September to October

The recommended period for the most pleasant weather and best overall experience.

    Shoulder Season

Fewer crowds and better prices, with generally acceptable weather conditions.

    Off-Peak

Lowest prices and emptiest attractions, though weather may be less predictable.

    Getting Around

Dubrovnik's Old Town is pedestrian-only. Buses, ferries, and short drives handle the rest of Dalmatia.

    🚶 Walking

The walled Old Town is entirely car-free — everything is a 10-minute walk from Stradun.

    🚌 Libertas Bus

Local buses connect the Old Town to Lapad, Gruž port, and the airport.

    ⛴️ Ferries

Jadrolinija and Krilo ferries link to Lokrum, the Elaphiti Islands, Mljet, Korčula, and Split.

    🚗 Rental Car

Best for exploring the Pelješac wine peninsula and Konavle valley — parking outside the walls.

💡 Stay outside Pile Gate and walk in — cars are useless in the Old Town and parking is punishingly expensive.

    Insider Tip

Do the walls at opening (8am) or 90 minutes before sunset — midday sun on white marble is brutal.
