Dubai is what happens when a fishing town gets ambitious. The record-breaking towers and mall aquariums are only half of it — the other half is wooden abras crossing the creek for a few cents, spice souks that smell like the old trade routes, and red dunes twenty minutes past the last roundabout. It's an easy, safe stopover city that rewards anyone who leaves the marina.
Best Time to Visit
November to March, when daytime temperatures are actually pleasant
Nov – Mar
25–30°C, blue skies, beach weather and outdoor dining. Peak season prices.
Apr – May
Warming fast but still workable early and late in the day. Good hotel deals.
Jun – Aug
45°C+ and humid. Indoor-only season, with the cheapest rooms of the year.
Sep – Oct
Cooling down; by late October the beaches are back in play.
Getting Around
A driverless metro spine plus cheap taxis makes the city easy without a rental car; the desert needs a 4x4 tour.

Two lines linking the airport, Downtown and the Marina. Buy a Nol card at any station.
🚕 Taxis
Metered, plentiful and inexpensive — the default for anything off the metro line.
⛵ Abra
Traditional wooden boats crossing Dubai Creek for a single dirham.
🚙 Desert 4x4 Tours
The only sensible way into the dunes — dune bashing, camel rides and a camp dinner.
💡 Everything indoors is fiercely air-conditioned — carry a layer even when it's 40°C outside.
