Athens stopped being just an Acropolis stopover somewhere in the last decade. The ruins are still extraordinary, but so are the neighbourhood wine bars in Koukaki, the street art in Psyri, the food markets and the rooftops where the Parthenon glows at night like a lamp someone left on.
